Members of the Crabill family (left), school officials, Gov. Mike DeWine and Rocking Horse officials celebrate the opening of the Springfield School-Based Health Center.

Members of the Crabill family (left) watched as Springfield Supt. Dr. Robert Hill, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Rocking Horse CEO Dr. Yamini Tegala cut the ribbon for the health center opening in front of state and local dignitaries and school students.

Watching this space grow into a trusted, welcoming place for students and community members to get the care they need has been wonderful. The support has been so overwhelming that we can already add more services our community needs.

The Clifton Court affordable housing project required patience and partnerships to get 7 new homes constructed on Clifton Avenue near The Dome in southside Springfield. Supporters included Neighborhood Housing Partnership of Greater Springfield, the City of Springfield, the Crabill Family Foundation, Premier Properties and others.

The two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses were built for income qualifying first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance offered by the City of Springfield.

“Neighborhood Housing Partnership remains committed to making homeownership achievable for more families, especially those who’ve traditionally been left behind,” Executive Director Rachel Goff said.

It’s a project that goes beyond building homes — it’s about building lives, strengthening neighborhoods, and investing in what matters most. It’s a symbol of what happens when we come together — residents, nonprofits, private partners, and local government.

The School-Based Health Center at Springfield High is a partnership that includes Springfield City School District, Rocking Horse Community Health Center, the Crabill Family Foundation and other local and state funders.

Students from all 17 Springfield buildings use the clinic, and patients are accepted regardless of their ability to pay. The clinic also serves family members of students, school staff and community members. The center had more than 4,000 appointments in its first year and offers mental health services, well-child checkups, immunizations, sports physicals and more. Vision care has been added, and dental care is planned in the future.

After stalling for years, the seven Clifton Court houses were built when a new partnership was forged among the City of Springfield, Neighborhood Housing Partnership, Crabill Family Foundation and others. The affordable houses completed the neighborhood near The Dome.
